Maximizing the Return on Your Control Investment – Part 2

As addressed in my December 12th blog posting, James Beall and I presented Part 1 of this presentation on Friday morning at Emerson Exchange, 2011 in a “meet the expert” workshop. Part 2 was not presentation at Emerson Exchange because of time limitation. In this continuation of the presentation we address when it is possible to justify the cost associated with the installation and commissioning of multi-loop techniques such as feedforward control, ratio and override control. The steps required to commission multi-loop control strategies are discussed along with common mistakes to avoid. Input is provided on how to recognize when advanced control techniques such as MPC are needed to achieve the desired control performance. Many of the ideas discussed in this session are addressed in Control Loop Foundation – Batch and Continuous Processes.
