In early September, Mark Nixon and I were notified by ISA that we were recipients of the “Raymond D. Molloy Award” presented by the ISA Publications Department. Our book, Control Loop Foundation—Batch and Continuous Processes, sold the most units of any new book published by ISA in 2010. We received this award in the Mardi Gras Theater, The Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center, at ISA Automation Week 2011, on Tuesday, 18 October 2011. Many people provide input that helped make the book a best seller. In particular, Susan Colwell, Manager, ISA Publications and her team did a great job in the publication of the book. Brenda Forsythe and Jim Sipowicz are responsible for the creative book cover design. Jim Cahill and Deborah Franke provided guidance in the design of the web site for the book. Also, the comments by the ISA reviewers, Mark Sowell, and Scott Bogue, were of great help in the editing phase.
Ray Molloy was a major driving force in the ISA publications program for more than 20 years. As Department Vice President and then later as chair of the Books Committee, Ray maintained a keen interest in ISA publishing quality books that meet the needs of measurement and control professionals. On his death in 1996, the Publication Department chose to honor his contributions by establishing this award.
At ISA Automation Week and at Emerson Exchange, a life size poster of Mark and me holding the book was placed in the ISA bookstore area to advertise the book. A copy of the artwork for this poster is shown below.
A printed copy of Control Loop Foundation – Batch and Continuous Processes may be purchased at the ISA web site. Also, an eBook version of the book was introduced at ISA Automation Week. The eBook is available for the Kindle (Mobi format) and iPad (ePUB format).
